The Black Two-Horned Wyvern Black Diablos (ディアブロス亜種, diaburosu ashu) is a flying wyvern introduced in Monster Hunter G.
It is a subspecies of Diablos.
Physiology and Abilities
Despite being classified as a subspecies, Black Diablos are actually just regular female Diablos in heat. Their color is theorized to be related to hormonal changes during breeding and pregnancy periods, in which they become very aggressive and hostile to all other monsters - including other Diablos.

It is not entirely accurate to call the Black Diablos a subspecies: It is merely a female Diablos immediately before and during pregnancy, the shell darkening to communicate its hormonal aggression to any that encounter it. Once it has spawned its young, the Black Diablos loses her coloration and becomes indistinguishable from the sand-colored Diablos. The title "subspecies" is used here not in a strictly scientific manner, but to warn hunters of what awaits them - a Diablos unlike any they have ever faced. As while the Black Diablos is mostly quite similar to its regular counterpart, its altered shell and heightened aggression make it much more formidable. The strength of tempered Black Diablos has even been compared to that of Elder Dragons.
Black Diablos are extremely territorial, and will not hesitate to attack any creature they perceive as an intruder. This even extends to their own kind: While a Black Diablos will tolerate a male partner long enough to complete the mating process, no peaceful pairing of Black and brown Diablos has ever been observed - it always results in violent clashes and chipped horns. What makes the Black Diablos especially dangerous is the way she carries herself. Instead of charging instantly like her male companions, the Black Diablos will carefully encircle its enemy and find just the right angle from which to attack. During a charge, the Black Diablos is also known to altenrate its speed. a diabolically effective way to disorient its foe and break their guard.
Luckily for everyone, Black Diablos prefer to stay in underground caves during their pregnancy, presumably to preserve energy. They will only surface to feed, a period when the entire environment must be on high alert as to not evoke the raven-shelled mothers wrath. Even fierce creatures such as the Deviljho must tread carefully. Researchers have been able to determine that Black Diablos are somewhat picky eaters: While all Diablos love desert cacti, Black Diablos seem to only seek out the most nutritious, enriched cacti, which they guard jealously. This might be a way to maximize the nutrients that are passed onto its offspring.
Developer's Note: Black Diablos was designed as the only subspecies in Monster Hunter: World that can be encountered without clearing the story. This was for two reasons: For one, it would give players a surprising possible encounter, one where they'd be likely to witness a Black Diablos fight a regular Diablos in a unique turf war. The second reason was that players might feel bad being asked to attack a Black Diablos if they knew that the monster was pregnant. This second point occupied the development team for some time. To resolve this, they made the Black Diablos both extremely aggressive and powerful - no shame in defending yourself against a rampaging beast, after all. The team however wonders if they may have done too good of a job, as they noticed that many players would simply break the Black Diablos' horns and then retreat immediately.
