Monster Hunter World: The Official Complete Works

Full height: approximately 577.22 cm

Known habitat: Wildspire Waste, Coral Highlands
The Pink Rathian is an incredibly rare subspecies of Rathian, defined by its pink shell. It was the first subspecies discovered in the New World, and much about its presence there is still unknown. It's not even clear if Pink Rathian have formed a stable population on the continent, or if the Research Commission simply encountered a flock of them that had recently migrated from the Old World. Their presence on the New World is believed to be linked to surges of Bioenergy, and yet they do not appear to inhabit the Elder's Recess, the most energy dense region of the continent. Pink Rathian do seem to behave the same as green Rathian when it comes to pairing behavior - the individuals found in the Wildspire Waste and Coral Highlands are likely those that were rejected by an Azure Rathalos during the breeding season.
Similar to Azure Rathalos, the discolored shell of the Pink Rathian is much more durable than that of its green sister. Simultaneously, this pink shell is also more flexible, making the Pink Rathian both more armored and more agile. This is also expressed in a more sophisticated use of its wings and tail: The Pink Rathian can fly with delicate precision, weaving around her enemies until the moment to strike arrives. Her tail becomes an even deadlier weapon, able to be swung at angles and speeds the green Rathian could only dream of. Additionally, each tail spike contains a higher concentration of venom.
While the Pink Rathian looks quite similar to the green species, their temperament is quite different. Unlike what her elegant appearance might suggest, the Pink Rathian is highly aggressive, and will attack just about anything it encounters. In the Wildspire Waste, the territories of Pink and green Rathian overlap, and the Pink Rathian has been witnessed viciously attacking standard Rathians.
Developer's Note: The development team wanted to include a monster that would be fought in the Coral Highlands and that would introduce the higher difficulty of High Rank Quests. Since the regular Rathian was optional in the Low Rank Storyline, Pink Rathian was chosen. In previous games, players would advance from Low to High Rank rather abruptly, and for Monster Hunter: World, the team wanted the transition to be smoother. This is why the player must first find tracks for the Pink Rathian, building up to the confrontation. At the same time, the team hoped that this process would illustrate how a subspecies emerges under more favorable conditions. They wanted to make sure however that the player understood that the Pink Rathian was not an entirely new, unknown species. As for the fight itself, Pink Rathian was designed to teach players that even though they had bested Zorah Magdaros, they had to be ready for more challenging encounters - in High Rank, Monsters that they had gotten used to might appear with new abilities, after all.
