Characteristics: Perhaps in order to shield itself from hot temperatures, this monster is most often seen lurking beneath pools of mud. It has also been known to use the mud it cloaks itself in as a means of attacking, so exercise caution. Somewhat fastidious about its swamp, should the marsh be disturbed in any way, it will rush with reckless abandon towards the perpetrator. Useful Information: This monster is left open following its headlong rush attack, allowing for its weak forelegs to be targeted, or for it to be toppled by breaking its hindlegs. Habitats: Desert, Swamp |

Known habitat: Wildspire Waste
Barroth will cover itself completely in mud by either rolling around in a swamp, or completely submerging itself in a murky pool. Its five nostrils are located atop its scalp to allow for sufficient airflow during this behavior, which also helps to keep it cool, protect it from parasites and insects, and to hide it from enemies. Barroth will shake off portions of its mud coating both to mark its territory and to slow down adversaries. If it loses too much of its mud coating it tends to go in search of a mud puddle to replenish it with.
In combat, Barroth will exhale sharply through its nostrils and barrel towards its opponents with a forward charge powered by its strong legs. Though its entire body is armored, the shell on its scalp is especially thick. This scalp must be groomed by rubbing it against the ground to account for changes in size and weight as the Barroth grows, as well as to clear off any grime that could clog its nostrils. This behaviour has been observed in Barroth across both the Old World and the New World. Despite this tremendous weapon, Barroths in the Old World were reported to die due to cranial damage in fierce territorial disputes during the dry season. These same conflicts have not yet been observed in the New World.
Male Barroths of the Old World typically mate with one female, though if their territory is sufficiently large it may accommodate multiple females. Each female will form a mound of mud to lay ten to twenty eggs within. Both the male and female protect the eggs, which are warmed by geothermal heat and hatch within a few months. These hatchlings resemble their parents, albeit with less impressive scalps. Their legs develop during this time as they wade through thick mud to eat insects. This reproductive behavior is expected to be reflected in New World Barroths, though it has yet to be observed. Adult Barroths feed primarily on carrier ants and consistently patrol their territory.
Developer's Note: Barroth was intended to teach players how to dodge, with its straightforward and well telegraphed charge making the fight easy once the player understands it. Its design is intended to reward players for taking advantage of their environment, whether by using the slinger to clear its mud, using terrain to avoid its charges, or by triggering a turf war between itself and Jyuratodus.
