The Citadel is a locale introduced in, and exclusive to, Monster Hunter Rise Sunbreak.
It is the second locale unlocked in Sunbreak for the player, and is characterized by 3 various environments.
Monsters such as Boggi, Garangolm, Lunagaron, and Malzeno can be found here.
Description
The Citadel consists of three different environments. The west/south-west chunk is a vivid marsh, with murky mud and a strange poisonous tree. The north chunk is a snowy mountainous region, also complete with an underground icy cave. The east chunk is idyllic fortress ruins, with decayed houses and an underground sewer tunnel. The locale is separated into 14 areas.
Area 1: Shelter Plains
This zone in the south has a large decrepit wall which hides and guards the Main Camp south of it. A bridge that leads over a small river which goes to the ocean rests here. Tan, dormant grass lives in this area, but small vivid Sending Sprigs still take up space. Gowngoat tread this area and Area 2 above, so predators like Rathalos and Seregios often fly here for sustenance.
Beyond this wall to the south rests the Main Camp.
Area 2: Fortress Border
In the center of the map lies Area 2. This is a common sprawling battleground for all monsters, numerous turf wars and severe bloodshed taking place here. A small destroyed bunker rests south of the main area, where many large monsters hop on top and take a nap. This area borders every major division: swamps to the west and southwest, mountains to the north, and most noticeably the giant fortress ruins gate and bridge to the east. Decayed Dragonators protrude from the gates, and monsters come and go to Area 3 as they please on this ruined passage.
Beneath the bridge is a shallow river, a small destroyable (barrel bomb needed) door just south of the bridge goes into a wall and is filled with valuable relics. To the southwest of the main area in the ravine is a fishing spot.
Area 3: Ruins Town
To the west past the great fortress walls is a ruined town protected by equally ruined walls. Pyrantulas often roam this area. Some materials like mushrooms and Hunting Helper Endemic Life grow and live in the town.
A sewer hole entrance with a lantern leads deep underground to a sewer with some water flowing in it. A rather unnoticeable hole in the vine ladder walls leads to a forgotten room with 1 out of 2 Scale Lizards in the Citadel. Further in this room is a tunnel to a secluded patio with a view to the ocean.
Area 4: Ruins Tower
North east of the main Area 2 is a ruined tower, also bordered by a tall mountain cliff adorned with pure solid ice. This tower when struck by a monster or large barrel bomb will leak some usable hunting items before being destroyed. A tunnel leads to a spanning cave system only large monsters can travel to different areas through.
High atop the cliffs even farther northeast, should the hunter make the Wirebug-slinging climb, is a ruined house on its side presumably fallen from weak terrain. On top rests the majestic Gargolda, a rare Endemic Life exclusive to this locale, and the 2nd out of 2 Scale Lizards of the Citadel.
Further north up into the mountains rests the Citadel's only Sub-Camp. West of the sub-camp is a tunnel with 3 Red Spiribirds and a relic inside. Taking a vine covered wall in Area 5 with Golden Spiribugs fluttering will make a good climbing path to the site.
Area 5: Mountain Gate
North to central Area 2 is Area 5. This area is divided by a high ground and a lower ground. Many monsters hop up to the higher ground to rest and idle, though it is certainly no safe place as further north is the trail to Area 6. Southeast in the lower ground is another entrance to the spanning monster cave system.
Southwest of this area, higher up on a mountain, lies an entrance hole to an illuminated cave maze. The main egg-type collectible, the Ice Crystal Cluster, is found here (like all egg-types, it must be carried to Main Camp). Deeper in the maze is an exit to the pathway between Areas 5 and 10, just opposite side of the cave mouth leading to Area 9.
Area 6: Snowy Ruins
Further up north lies a medium space lined with pavement. From here to Areas 7, 8, and 9 are many Mountain/Snowfield dwelling monsters. Remobras often hover around in this spot. The appearance of the ruins and pavement suggest a town square of some kind, before it was consumed by nature in these mountains.
A fishing spot north of the path between Areas 5 and 6 rests, opposite side of the Sub-Camp's Spiribird tunnel.
Area 7: Mountain Peak
At the very top corner of the locale lies an open battleground surrounded by walls frozen over, with a large ruined tower north of the Area, assaulted by heavy snow. One of the three corners of the map assumed to be Lunagaron's turf. Other than a Vigorwasp and some materials, not much life exists here, and is often a theatric sparring ground against a dangerous threat like Shagaru Magala or Primordial Malzeno.
Area 8: Cave Mouth Pass
In the northwest is a frozen mountain path, surrounded by four different paths to areas, including a cave mouth to Area 9.
Area 9: Frozen Cave
A frozen underground cave with two exits. Flying monsters can enter through a hole in the northeast wall. Many monsters living in the cold climate come here to sleep. Any terrain damage dealt here will be Ice damage (and Iceblight), from Arzuros rocks to Furious Rajang boulder throws.
Area 10: Swamp Barrens
A dull portion of the west swamp, with an exclusive poison tree trap that creates a poison pool when struck by a monster or large barrel bomb. Many Boggis love to hunt in this sprawling swamp, and especially in this specific Area.
Area 11: Mossy Lodge
The furthest west area of the map, some nature-overtaken houses and stone pavement rest here, with some small puddles. Despite being abandoned for some time, what are assumed to be Thunderbugs are still trapped in an old hanging lantern among the houses. This is Garangolm's territory of the 3 environments.
Area 12: Swamp Nest
A (mostly) safer haven for monsters to sleep, obscured by large rock formations and mossy tree remains.
Area 13: Resinmire Swamp
In this swamp area, many mossy trees strangely cause sap to flow into a pool named the Resinmires. Thornytoads are native to this Area, when they fully climb up a stump or stone and happen to jump off when a monster is nearby, they'll stick to that monster. Pyrantulas and Hornetaurs roam here often.
Like most watery terrain, any terrain damage dealt here becomes Water damage and Waterblight.
Two different fishing areas exist both to the northwest among some ruins, and to the south via a hole in a tree that the player must use Wirebugs to hop into.
Area 14: Cursed Cathedral
The easternmost Area of the map, ruled by Malzeno. It is an old cathedral of the ruins section, with a strange altar that glows red with a water-like reflection on the walls, and coral-like tendrils that branch out. The altar itself accumulated Malzeno's crystallized life energy it leaves behind, and allowed Qurio to feed off of it after their true master's death.
