The Wings of Ruin Oltura (アルトゥーラ, arutūra) is an Elder Dragon introduced in Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin.
Physiology and Abilities
Oltura is a massive Elder Dragon with moth-like features on its wings. Oltura consists of a body covered in white scales, four different pink/purple horns (the larger branching out into pronged horns), black scaled stomach and legs, deep purple spikes on its shoulders, and a long tail that ends in two prongs. One of its largest traits, and a source of its power, is its two gigantic wings, with eye-like patterns at the base of the wings. Four inactive wings rest on the side of its body, which unfold and appear as slightly smaller wings with identical patterns as Oltura powers up.
The eye spots on the wings change color depending on how much power and element Oltura channels. When near death and entering its true form, purple patterns also appear on its wings.
Its juvenile worm form consists of gigantic snake-like tendrils with mouth parts that open up like a flower. Sometimes only one worm appears, but there are rare sights of three worms at the same time in one pit. What body these tendrils are connected to is never seen in-game, but in the official concept art book, is shown to be appendages of Oltura's juvenile form.
Oltura begins its life as a larval-like worm that can travel anywhere through the world. The Oltura does this by creating giant sinkholes, which destroy anything above them in the process, including villages. Oltura feeds specifically on Rathalos in order to become strong and reach adulthood. It uses the Rage-Ray as a hypnotic light effect to lure the Rathalos in, then if a specimen arrives near the pits, Oltura will emerge to either eat the Rathalos whole or drain their energy. While a significant number of any kind of Rathalos will seemingly do, Razewing Rathalos is particularly effective in accelerating Oltura's growth. It also appears to be willing to devour anything during its larval state, as anything that falls into a pit is never seen again.
Oltura's Rage-Rays also unintentionally have an effect on other nearby monsters, changing them into Rage-Rayed Monsters. Though unlike with Rathalos, other monsters are simply driven into a frenzy. Despite relations via sexual dimorphism, Rathians aren’t prey to Oltura and are Rage-Rayed like most monsters. These rays along with Oltura's voice can also supposedly affect humans and Wyverians, which led to a Wyverian cult devoted to worshipping it. However the cult was very misguided, as despite them believing Oltura wished to remake the world in its own image, Oltura's only desire was to live.
Oltura is a creature whose very existence upsets the balance of the world and causes great disaster and calamity throughout its life-cycle. While an adult Oltura is smaller than its larval state, it is significantly more powerful and can continue to evolve and grow stronger, even in the middle of a fight. It can wield all five elements for powerful attacks, generate immense amounts of energy using its wings, put up an aura to protect itself by vaporizing incoming attacks in milliseconds (which can be disabled should the wings be damaged enough), and its presence alone is capable of causing large scale changes in the weather similar to Alatreon. This, paired with its all-consuming desire to live, its intensely aggressive approach to defending itself, destructive effect on the world around it, and disregard for all other living things, make it a threat to the entire world and makes co-existence nearly impossible.

Notes
- Oltura is the final boss of "Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin”. As such, it cannot be a Monstie.
- Oltura can only be fought once. Should the player wish to fight it again, it is recommended to save in another file slot right before first challenging Oltura.
- Oltura's first phase theme is called "Surging and Fading Light"; its second phase theme is called "Rays of Hope and Despair".
- In the concept art book, it shows a concept art for a scrapped design for Oltura, which very strongly resembles a Rathalos.
- Oltura is unable to be downed, a trait no other monster possesses.
- Strangely, it uses Bazelgeuse’s roar in the cutscene where it uses Dragon Rage.
- Since it uses completely original animations for normal attacks, they will be listed here:
- Power attacks have Oltura raise up and then shred downwards with its claws. (Similar to Alatreon’s midair claw attack)
- Speed attacks don’t seem to exist, Oltura only attacks via Speed abilities.
- Technical attacks will lunge Oltura towards its target, only to pull back so the tail attacks.
- The first cutscene of the game has secret foreshadowing to Oltura’s demise: Mahana Village’s lanterns based on Oltura are part of a ritual where the wing eyes are stabbed before floating the lanterns.
Phase 1 - 1 Set of Wings
- Oltura starts with using Technical attacks.
- Oltura then turns to Power attacks when enraged.
- Oltura is weak to Dragon in this part.
Phase 1 - 2 Sets of Wings
- As Oltura is always enraged in this form, it uses Power attacks, Flame/Thunder Bullet, and Charge which follows into Blaze/Thunder Tempest.
- Oltura is weak to Ice in this part.
- In this form and following forms, it starts acting twice in one turn.
Phase 1 - 3 Sets of Wings
- Oltura uses Speed abilities, Aqua/Ice Bullet, and Charge which follows into Aqua/Hail Tempest.
- Aqua Tempest can inflict Skillseal.
- The first time it moves to this part, it uses Freezing Downpour, dealing 999 damage to all, but again only to reduce opponents to 1 health. (This attack can be evaded.)
- Oltura is weak to Thunder in this part.
Phase 2 - Awakened Wings
- Oltura uses Technical attacks and Dragon Bullet.
- The first time it moves to this part, it uses Dragon Rage, dealing 999 damage to all, but again only to reduce opponents to 1 health. (This attack can be evaded.)
- Oltura is weak to Dragon from now on.
- Oltura can act thrice per turn.
Phase 3 - Luminous Wings
- Oltura will charge with Swallow for some turns, breakable parts change to Left and Right Ray wings, and the purple “eyes” on its wings will glow blue.
- If the player fails to break its ray wings in time, Oltura uses Luminosity, dealing 9999 damage to all opponents. It will then cycle with Swallow once more.
